We are all humans, from the same species, but what makes us individuals? What do you
choose to consume, and what things do you let consume you? If you look hard enough at the
‘98% you’ sticker in the middle of this piece, see eyes and a mouth that make a hidden face. The face represents you as an individual and what makes up you as an individual. Everywhere above the face represents thoughts, emotions, feelings, and love in people’s minds which results in an
explosion of creativity. In the area above, fantasies, dreams, and aspirations are represented which we express through art and singularity. Below the mouth of the face illustrates many things that society influences us with but don’t define us as individuals. What are you conformed to conceive and envisage? No one can choose to be born, but you can choose what
kind of a person you want to be. What makes us, us? That’s for them to decide. What makes
you, you? That’s for YOU to decide.
Michael Pieper is 22 years old studying Business Management and goes by the nickname his friends gave him, Mikey. In high school, he purchased a camera because of his high interest in photography, but one evening he found his car smashed. Someone broke into his car. Along with other belongings and the damage done to his car, he found his newly purchased camera to
be stolen. Recently as a gift, Mikey’s father bought him a new camera which rekindled his fire
for photography. Mikey spends his spare time taking pictures, listening to music, and hanging with friends. To him, art is can be anything and is for self-interpretation which gives people the ability to
express who they truly are as individuals. Being unique and expressing unique attributes is
something Mikey loves because he loves the differences that come with different people. As he
likes to ask, “What makes you, you?”
