The Last Place You Loved Me by Alexis Litsch

For this piece, Alexis found inspiration from a trip to Los Angeles with her significant other. It is a landscape oil painting from a reference photo that she took of rocks by a sea cave in Leo Carrillo which is right off of Pacific Coast Highway. Unfortunately, shortly after the trip Alexis and her significant other broke up when she was halfway done with the painting. This shifted the feeling behind the painting from a picture-perfect memory of our beautiful trip to a symbol of heartbreak as the once blue sky turned into a moody scene. As Alexis says, "The title really says it all. The ocean has always been something captivating to me and it had been years since I tried to capture it in a piece. I went into this oil painting with confidence since my last ocean painting since acquiring a wealth of knowledge from my KSU art classes. I explored an expressionism style with painterly and angular brush strokes in the foreground water."

Alexis Litsch is a junior studying Painting and Drawing with a Minor in Entrepreneurship. Besides art, one of her favorite hobbies is spending time outdoors; whether that be hiking or setting up her ENO by a river. Alexis most of her time managing her brand that she has had for the past four years called Peace Alien. Peace Alien consists of tie-dye t-shirts personally designed by Alexis. Her favorite art style is Abstract Expressionism and some of her favorite famous artists are Wassily Kandinsky, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Cy Twombly. At the end of the day Alexis finds inspiration in Elly Smallwood and Sharon Schock. "I have always been a firm believer in doing what you love and making art has been what I loved since I was a kid. Unapologetically pursuing this passion is what led me to be an artist."
